Who is Brent Wood
My career has been defined by versatility and problem-solving across technical and analytical disciplines. I began in Information Technology and Information Systems, where I spent the first third of my career supporting and building technology from the ground up—PC troubleshooting and repair, programming, database design, and server administration. During this period, I also spent three years as an instructor, teaching technical concepts and helping others build practical skills.
I later transitioned into Geographic Information Systems, where I have spent fourteen years and counting. My work has included spatial analysis, database and GIS server management, programming, and, more recently, people leadership. This blend of hands-on technical work and strategic oversight has allowed me to bridge the gap between systems, data, and decision-makers.
Across both IT and GIS roles, I have worked with state government, health and human services, environmental health, and the utility sector, particularly water and wastewater systems. These experiences have shaped my ability to work in complex, resource-constrained environments while delivering practical, reliable solutions.
Beyond my professional career, I have been a writer and storyteller for most of my life. I am currently developing several novels and am working toward publication beginning in 2027.
